Jam Chart for Oblivion (6 entries)

Date City Timing Notes
2023-07-19 Wilmington, NC 17:28 > from "Chalk Dust Torture." The second version of "Oblivion" gets taken for a big-time walk. This is grimy, dirty Phish; no bliss jamming or peaks to be found. Page on the synth, heavy effects from Trey, this is a truly exploratory jam.
2023-07-23 Syracuse, NY 20:58 The second leg of a mammoth 1-2 punch following "Tweezer", "Oblivion" proves to be a prime vehicle for synth-drenched improvisation. A late-night, portentous atmosphere persists until the pivot to major shortly after 11:00, bringing to bear an encouraging blissful payoff.
2023-10-06 Nashville, TN 21:23 - > from a "Jibboo" worth your time. This sprawling jam starts patiently as the band jams around the structure of the song for a good bit before spreading its wings. Ever so slowly, the tempo gradually builds until things reach a "mini-peak" before Trey winds things back to sing the chorus again.
2023-12-29 New York, NY 16:26 After a brief stay in the minor synth zone, the jam trends more upbeat by 8:00 and shortly thereafter features more seriously rocking riffage, then deftly turns on the hose with a few long sustained notes from Trey along the way for a surefire crowd-pleasing conclusion.
2024-08-07 Grand Rapids, MI 15:20 Big first set version brings the heat and stays punchy and rocking throughout. Capped off by some fine trilling and a relatively satisfying peak before returning to the lyrics to finish
2024-08-31 Commerce City, CO 18:15 While the band may not cover a lot of new ground, they certainly traverse a lot of interesting territory. The song's signature line (which many have already likened to "Sand") runs, at least for some time, “like” Sand. Moody, atmospheric play does break for airier sounds, with Trey splashing through sonic soil, the version becoming an airier affair. Page pounces, and the second "half" of the jam is marked by great full-band play before a return to song, proper, to close.
Jam chart versions are selected because of improvisational and other characteristics that distinguish these from typical versions of the song.
The jam chart team has highlighted some versions with a yellow background; these are the versions the team believes to be especially improvisational, or otherwise notable.
