yanzlow Fantastic writeup! As another 19 year vet who has had the privilege of seeing a number of the generally recognized high points from 95 onward, I think that my relationship with the band was similar to Jeremy's (must be something about the name), but I would say that while I was aware some aspects of Phish's prior brilliance was either stunted or absent these last few years, I've been seeing them friends who were relative newcomers a fair amount, whose joy is usually quite contagious, and I suppose i've learned to lower my expectations vs. the 'golden era,' and have been pleased with how shows have felt for me and avoided jadedness for the most part. the fact that I in no way had to do that last night, and in fact felt like i've been waiting for 20 years to see something like that, did cause a little extra moisture of seep from my eyeholes during tweepriese. It was Phish at their Phishiest, and as fun as some 'silly shows', as brain-melty as some epic jam shows have been these last few years, last night was a return of something that was missing. To see these masters of their craft absolutely OWN their art last night, in a way most bands couldn't even conceive of never mind attempt, and then stamp it with their own dorky humor brought the experience full circle for me. I wouldn't give up even the least inspired phish show i've seen, but it sure does say something that last night felt like the 19 years between show #1 for me and now could have only been a dream.
