If Trey had/has fallen off the wagon, I don't think there would be any hesitancy by the rest of the band to pull the plug on tour. The Phish machine is a huge monster but I think this group of guys are still friends at their core and health would take priority of making some bucks. Big difference between smoking some bowls before the show and sticking needles in your arm. And no old junkie can hide it. Maybe when you're young you can, but not when you're older. He flubs. Jerry flubbed. Warren flubs. Jake flubs. BB King, Clapton, Hendrix... on and on. Except Jeff Beck. That dude is infallible. As someone who has played guitar for 30+ years. The shits not easy. Especially the older you get and the less dexterous your fingers become and your brain slows down. And like most guitarists, Trey tends to flub the most when he's thinking about what he's playing.
Thank you brother. I love Trey and don't want to think anything but the best for him. I think you are quite right in your perspective. I saw a large portion of Fall Tour '10 and he was CLEAN and his playing was SHARP. Not that I prefer '10 to the last couple tours...I'm sure you know what I mean.

Anyway, right on about Jeff Beck. He is the cat.
